I broke my Mother 32. I accidentally applied the wrong voltage (24V instead of 12V to the Eurorack power pins. It wouldn’t turn on. Completely dead.
But I fixed it myself in under one hour, using replacement components that cost just a few £. Here’s how…
Remove it from the case
The Mother 32 has 2 different power connectors
It was the Eurorack power circuit that I broke
Remove the front panel
Replace these components
D1: Shottky diode, fast recovery rectifier, surface mount. Part number is CDBA140-G.
D2: TVS diode rated at 12 volts, 600 watts, and is surface mount. Part number is SMBJ12A-E3/52.
R51: 2 Ohm resistor with a 1% tolerance rated for .25 watts and is surface mount. Part number is CRCW12062R00FKEA.
Desolder
I used a solder iron and some desolder braid
New components soldered
Fixed
Conclusion
The nature of these Eurorack synths means that it can be quite easy to connect the wrong power to their pins, causing damage. But it’s good to know that in most cases it’ll probably just be a few components that need replacing on the power supply circuit.
