Summer 2009, me and my friend bought a Citroen 2CV for £650. We fixed it up then drove it around France and Belgium. I learnt to drive in this car.
In this post I’ll quickly go over some of the restoration
It’s built a bit like a gocart

The engine is 602cc and is air cooled

We stripped the whole interior
Checked for more holes and structural integrity. Removed rust and painted

There was quite a bit of rust
The guttering beneath the windscreen has rusted away. This seems to be a common sight on many 2CVs because water collects and sits here.

We repaired most of it with fibre glass

Prime and respray

We repaired many things with fibreglass

Cleaned engine
We used wire brushes and petrol to clean most parts. It gave us a chance to further inspect and problems or broken parts – mostly rubber hoses and clips

Zinc paint
We used zinc paint on the chassis and suspension arms to protect and prevent rust.

The finished car – after a few months

And then we drove it 2500 miles around France and Belgium
